Learning Plans - Creating a new template
Insight has a selection of built-in learning plan templates, for different purposes. These are provided for use 'as is' or to provide a start point for your own amendments.
This guide runs through each of the templates, to help inform choices. It can be time-consuming to create your own template from scratch, so it is worth considering whether any of the available options could deliver your requirements.
Creating a Template for your School or Trust
To begin, view the learning plan templates via Admin > Learning plan templates
Templates can be created at school or Trust level. Trust templates are accessible to use with pupils, where appropriate, by all schools in the Trust.
View the templates via Admin > Learning plan templates

Adding or amending templates at Trust level works in the same way as at school level. Just access Learning plan templates via the Trust admin page rather than the school admin page.
The following describes usage at school level.
Any learning plans you have already created will appear in the list.

Click New Template to see the choices of template.

The Type menu allows you to choose which Insight template you want to base your template on.
You are able to choose a name for the template, to match any existing standard you have in place. It is possible that you might create more than one template based on the same Insight one, with amendments to suit the purpose.
Click Create Template and Insight will make a new template for you, based on your selection.
The Preview tab will be automatically selected. To better illustrate each type, we're using a preview with example content. When you create a new template, the preview will just show a basic example.
Each type is detailed below.
Learning plan template
The Learning Plan Template is designed to provide a standard IEP type plan. It should meet requirements in most cases.

It is also highly customisable, including moving the content and changing headings. It is also possible to add additional target tables; for example, to allow for a whole year plan with tables for Autumn, Spring and Summer terms.
Pupil Passport
This template is designed to deliver descriptive overviews of a pupil’s strengths, needs, and strategies to support. Sometimes called a Learner Profile or One-Page Profile, this type is useful to share with stakeholders who may be engaging with the pupil concerned.

It is also customisable. You are able to change the headers or even add more. Any added will appear in additional table cells.
Attendance Plan
The Attendance plan is designed to deliver requirements for a record of strategies to help improve pupil attendance. It includes a range of details on current attendance and comparisons with the same detail in the previous academic year.

Again, you can alter headings and layout, to adjust the template to meet your unique needs.
See the guide on making basic template changes to see how you can customise these default plans.
